This trip, I learnt that as long as we were willing to be used by God, He will use us in ways that we can't imagine, and accomplish work that we didn't think was possible.
In the short 4 days camp, we witnessed the transformation of a 6 yr old boy who lost both his parents at age 3. the first day, he refused to interact with anyone at all, refused to join in the classes, and refused to eat or drink. on the second day, we saw him smile for the first time after art and craft lesson. on the third day, we saw him playing with other kids, and on the fourth, he smiled at us. it was really amazing to see the transformation. it wasn't the work of anyone one person, and i can't credit the change in him to anything or anyone. which is why i stand in awe of God.
the village was an 8 hour ride away from Kunming city, and on the way we saw the mountains, and we just couldn't help but break out in song
我要向高山举目,我的帮助从何来,我的帮助从造天地的耶和华而来。哈利路亚!
it was so fantastic, singing songs of praises to God in the car while looking out to His wonderful creation.
and in the camp, though we didn't get to preach God's word to the kids outrightly, I got the chance to pray for a couple of them privately. and more importantly, I know God worked through us to bless the kids. the work of the holy spirit was so obvious. I say that because we wouldn't have been able to touch the kids' hearts that much on our own. not to the extent that the last day of the camp ended in tears, right from the start of the day.
it was the first time i played piano and cried at the same time. looking out at the crying students, i knew that God was at work in their hearts.
leaving them was hard. but i just had to have faith that God will continue the work that we have started there, will continue to grow the love that we have brought to the kids.
and it really was encouraging to see my brothers and sisters in christ working so hard together to make this camp as successful as it was. we all delivered our lessons well, and the kids enjoyed themselves thoroughly. and there was never complains about the late nights + early mornings we kept.
There's so much i want to say about the camp, so much that i want to give praise for. But, i guess this isn't the place to give a day by day sharing abt our days there. it's all in my heart.
我赐给你们一条新的命令,乃是叫你们彼此相爱;我怎样爱你们,你们也要怎样相爱。你们若有彼此相爱的心,众人因此就认出你们是我的门徒了。
yes, in the camp we taught the kids important values, values like 你是唯一,你很特别。values that find their roots in Christianity. psalm 139:14, I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, i know that full well.
we also taught the kids craftwork, english, and games, and they enjoyed themselves a lot.
but more importantly, i think we showed them love. and through that, i know that we have brought God's love to them too.
alright. that's all for now. the pics and will come later. :D
